A day ago I was confronted with a serious news regarding to recent happenings in Mindanao, Philippines. Particularly, in Lanao del Norte. A province of Iligan City my home town. I receive a news from my one of my friend telling that Iligan City is under attacked again by MILF-Moro Islamic Liberation Front after how many years had passed. MILF is a group of people who do have a specific goal on their own.
Mindanao is the second largest island in the Philippines at 94,630 square kilometers. The island is mountainous, and is home to Mount Apo, the highest mountain in the country. Mindanao is surrounded by seas: the Sulu Sea to the west, the Philippine Sea to the east, and the Celebes Sea to the south. Of all the islands of the Philippines, Mindanao shows the greatest variety of physiographic development. High, rugged, faulted mountains; almost isolated volcanic peaks; high rolling plateaus; and broad, level, swampy plains are found there. The island group of Mindanao encompasses Mindanao island itself and the Sulu Archipelago to the southwest. The island group is divided into six regions, which are further subdivided into 25 provinces that includes the province of Lanao Del Norte.
According to my Dad, whom explains it to me the main reason why MILF is now attacking is because Mayor Lawrence Lluch Cruz, Mayor of Iligan City did not sign the agreement between the government and them which was about the 8 barangays of Iligan City that they wanted to have under their regime. The only reason I know why did Mayor Cruz did not sign the agreement is because if he will sign it the barangays of Iligan will be too small already. And that is were the battle begins. Its been almost a week now that they are continually attacking those innocent civilians. In fact, there are several innocent civilians already have lost their lives and several Armed Forces of the Philippines(ARMY) has also give their life.
Personally, I don’t know as to where this battle will end. And if there’s still peace will air in the middle of the battle. All I pray for this happenings is the safeness of my family who are now in Iligan, safeness of those young innocent children, and eventually save the lives of many and of those people who are in the battle now to defeat the MILF. To my fellow Filipinos and to those people who are concern, let us all pray for PEACE and ORDER in Mindanao.
