What to do if a loved one is kidnapped?

Prevention Primer…

* STAY CALM.

- Keep in mind that those kidnappers want money, not the victim. Though this is easier said than done, a cool head is usually more successful in negotiation with kidnappers.

* DON”T REACT.

- Do not be shocked if the kidnappers ask for millions in ransom. This is the case these days, whether or not kidnappers have cased the victim or established the family’s capacity to pay.

* MAKE IT HARD FOR THEM.

- Do not make it easy for the kidnappers to get the money. It will only encourage them to victimize you or your family again. Moreover, the ransom you pay becomes logistics for a chain of other kidnapping cases.

* LEARN TO NEGOTIATE.

- As the word implies, you have to be careful in every single negotiation you do.

* DO NOT WORRY IF THE NEGOTIATION IS PROTRACTED.

- Kidnappers do not want that either and will likely lower their ransom demand. Sometimes, kidnappers will cut off the negotiations for a few days to increase the pressure.

* COOPERATE WITH AUTHORITIES.

- Kidnappers will issue repeated stern warnings against reporting the case. Reporting the case and asking for professional help may entail some risk for both the victim and his family. But not reporting and not seeking help also has its own risk. Cooperating with law enforcers will help them gather informations on the perpetrators, the modus operandi, the weapons, etc.

* KNOW WHO TO TRUST.

- It is best to report the case to a law enforcement agency that you know and trust. They can give you professional advice and protection.

* BE DISCREET.

- Limit the number of people who should know about the incident. Inform only those you trust, to guard against pranksters who could affect the negotiation.

* IF THE CASE GETS REPORTED TO THE MEDIA, DO NOT PANIC.

- Also, remain calm when kidnappers claim to know that you have reported the kidnapping to the police. It is a standard bluff. So, that’s it everyone ’cause I still have to check this renaissance clothing that I happened to browse earlier as I am looking on it for my Granny. Hope I can have one this days! Be safe guys!
